Restrictor or Permitter or Both?

Read several things in the book that hit home today.  Roth talks about Permitters (who eat pretty much what they want whenever they want) and Restrictors (who only feel in control when they follow a strict set of dietary and exercise guidelines - this includes those who are anorexic and/or bulimic).  She says that people can go back and forth between the two and I sure can see myself as both.  When I'm on a certain diet (like Weight Watchers which has worked very well for me twice now), I am obsessive about following the plan and don't depart from it.  If I do, I feel out of control.  I also know when I've been a Permitter - when I feel completely deprived on a diet, I run the opposite way and eat what I want.  The thing that resonates so much with me is that the author says Permitters eat because the food is there and because they feel like it and not because they eat what they want when their bodies are hungry and then stop when they've had enough.  You have to listen to what your body wants and not what your mind wants.  Oh boy, do I ever need to learn how to do that!  I registered for Geneen Roth's tele-conference call for Thursday night.  I didn't send in a question even though I could have and she might have chosen to answer it, but I want to listen to what she has to say.  It's a 70 minute call and I'm looking forward to it.  Still struggling to really understand everything in this book and will start reading it again when I finish - which will be soon.  I AM ENCOURAGED!
